This 5-day workshop offers an in-depth introduction and opportunity to gain a deeper working understanding of the international Art Therapy training with both individuals and groups. The workshop demonstrates the powerful nature of using Art Therapy as a therapeutic tool.

Target Audience:

The workshop is targeted at all adults including professionals, mental health practitioners, artists, therapists, social workers, educators, OT's, parents and students, who are interested in and want to learn about the process of Art Therapy.

The workshop is comprised of Art Therapy literature and theory, case studies and experiential art making daily.

1: Experiential art making

Art Therapy in groups is a highly effective, powerful and dynamic process. Working within a group format encourages the learning of new and inspiring creative uses of various mediums as a means of expression. Interaction with other group members provides an opportunity for sharing of feedback and insights around the image making process thereby enhancing the learning experience. The use of individual journals compliments one's individual process in that of self reflection, narratives and insights.

2: Clinical Case Studies

Clinical information providing material illustrating examples of clinical work with a variety of client groups including children, adults, psychiatry, Educators, autism, Emotional and Behavioural Problems etc.

3: Art Therapy Theory

The Art Therapy Theory includes lectures, discussions, questions and answers and relevant interesting literature. Although the facilitating Art Therapist follows a psychodynamic approach, and eclectic tool kit is used when appropriate and includes a combination of Art Therapy interventions, coaching, archetypes and numerology.

Course material includes a Comprehensive Course Manual with additional readings and individual journals.

Duration of Workshop: The workshop is run either for 5 days in a row (excluding the weekend) in Joburg and Cape Town, or once a week for 5 weeks (in Cape Town).

Time: 9.30 am – 4:30 pm
